Before the creation of Chobe Water Villas, the original lodge, King's Den, would frequently experience flooding when the Zambezi River reached its full capacity during the rainy season, leading to the eventual closure of the lodge.
The owner sought the expertise of Design Union to address this recurring issue.
We elevated the floor within the existing structure, ensuring it remained above the flood line.
A suspended deck was added around the outer perimeter, transforming the building into an inviting indoor/outdoor space for a restaurant, bar, and lounge.
Through strategic use of the existing structure, we removed all windows and doors, implementing a fresh space planning layout.
This not only resulted in significant cost savings but also breathed new life into the environment, exemplifying an innovative approach to recycling existing resources.
Further enhancing the guest experience, we introduced a vanishing pool and fire pits along the riverbank, contributing to the overall ambiance.
Chobe Water Villas has evolved into a thriving five-star lodge, operating seamlessly throughout the year and guaranteeing extraordinary wildlife sightings.
Their commitment to excellence was recognized in 2022 when they were honored with a prestigious World Luxury Hotel Award.
